Frank Mortenson files Australian Federal Police complaint against 14-year-old climate activist
The singer takes the 14-year-old teenager from Sydney to federal authorities in relation to her Instagram post 'threatening' the Prime Minister Scott Morrison
Frank Mortenson has filed a police complaint to the Australian Federal Police, the principal federal law enforcement agency of Australia, against 14-year-old teen activist from Sydney Izzy R.
14-year-old Izzy R., widely dubbed as “Australia’s Greta Thunberg” for her climate activism, is suspected by Frank Mortenson to have committed a Commonwealth crime - threatening the Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison. Frank Mortenson filed his complaint against Izzy R. to the Australian Federal Police on June 1 in relation to her 1,5 year-old Instagram publication.
The controversial Instagram post was made by Izzy R. nearly 1,5 years ago, on December 24, 2019. It includes two pictures of a cake depicturing ‘by its visual appearance’ a house burning in fire and a text directed to Scott Morrison:
“Merry Christmas Scott Morrison
@scottmorrisonmp
On a serious note, hoping everyone is having a safe Christmas.
#thisisclimatechange #bushfires #climatechange”
In his police complaint, Frank Mortenson described the post as ‘an indirect threat of soft nature against the Commonwealth official’.
“The post can be viewed as anxiously ambiguous and thought to be depicturing the threat at the Prime Minister and/or his house property” - stated Frank Mortenson in his complaint.
While the threat may be soft, the penalties for threatening the Commonwealth officials definitely aren’t - under Section 147.2 of the Australian Criminal Code Act 1995, anyone who threatens the Commonwealth official may be sentenced to imprisonment for up to two years. Frank Mortenson emphasised that the Instagram publication of Izzy R. “may be viewed as made with an intention to cause harm and danger to the property of Scott Morrison, including the probable danger of setting the property on fire, or encourage other individuals to do so”.
The complaint has been received and the Australian Federal Police have launched their investigation.
